Apparently flu season has arrived. I have been confined to my couch/bed since Wednesday and I am sick. of. it. I started feeling really fatigued on Tuesday late afternoon but just thought I needed some rest. Tuesday night I started getting a cough and just feeling like I couldn't take a deep breath. Downhill from there. Luckily, I already had a doctor appointment on Thursday morning to get the results of my EKG that my doctor had me do to check into a heart murmur she noticed. Turns out all is fine- just a minor heart murmur that won't affect me at all. While I was there my doctor checked me out and decided I definitely have the flu. She sent me home with a prescription for Tamiflu and lots of rest. Not that anyone needs to tell me to rest...I can barely take a shower with out falling over from exhaustion.
Anyway, although I'm not happy about being sick, I am glad it struck me well before my half marathon next weekend. My doctor seemed to think I will be just fine to get in a few more runs early to mid next week before my race next Saturday. Hallelujah. I have already missed one race way back in February due to pneumonia and it is NOT fun to train for 3 months just to have to miss what you've been training for.
Today, my sweet friend and co-worker, Mary Beth, stopped by my house and left this beautiful care package on my doorstep!
It was filled with magazines, orange juice, Ricola throat drops, cake batter dip & graham crackers (YUM!), cinnamon Altoids, a candle, and a little Halloween hanging decoration that says "Spooky". So cheerful and sweet. It really brightened my day, and I really did need some throat drops and orange juice too! It is such a blessing to have such sweet friends that go out of their way to make you smile when you're feeling sick.
Hopefully I am on the mend now. I'm feeling better than I was yesterday, so I'm hoping a weekend of rest will have me right back on my feet for next week. The hard part for me will be taking it slow. I am itching to run, but I know there's just no way yet.
Thanks for reading! :)
